NATALIE MONTAKHAB, SOPRANO
Natalie Montakhab studies at the RSAMD Alexander Gibson Opera School supported by the RSAMD Trust, Independent Opera and a Dewar Arts Award. She previously studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Jennifer Dakin and was Soprano Choral Scholar at St. John’s Hyde Park. In January2011 Natalie played “Vixen” in Janáčcek’s “The cunnong Little Vixen” in an RSAMD and Scottish Opera collaboration. Natalie sang Susanna/Le Nozze di Figaro in June 2010 for RSAMD Opera School and shadowed Susanna ans Gilda/Rigoletto for Scottish opera this season. In June/July 2011 she will sing Gretel in Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel” at RSAMD.
As a Debut Solo Artist in Prom 23 at the Royal Albert Hall Proms, the Times critic Hilary Finch noted the “wide awake soprano voice of Natalie Montakhab.” Natalie has sung as soloist with the Royal Scottish National Orchetra (Peer Gynt Suite), the BBcC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, (Bartok’s Village Scenes) and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra (Dido and Aeneas) under Nicholas McGegan. Natalie has been a Britten-Pears Young Artist since 2007 and appeared as soloist in the Snape Maltings Concert Hall in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with Masaaki Suzuki in recital (On this Island/Britten) with Sir Thomas Allen. Natalie sang in Samuel Barber’s “Knoxville Summer of 1915” for Soprano and Orchestra with Perth Symphony Orchestra in November 2010 and enjoyed masterclasses with Lisa Milne and Barbara Bonney. Previous operatic roles include Frasquita/Carmen, Amore/Orfeo and various scenes work in other operas.
