Richard Ireland was born in London.  He Studied music at the University of York and graduated with a first class honours degree. He won a scholarship to the Royal Northern College of Music and was a recipient of an award from the Countess of Munster Musical Trust.

Richard is an experienced concert singer, having performed a wide range of music throughout the country.  He has given recitals at Preston’s Guildhall, the York Early Music Festival and the RNCM Henze festival in the presence of the composer.  He has appeared a number of times with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, singing Cry of the Earth and Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music. Richard performs with Philip Pickett and the New London Consort, singing Holy Week at Cividale at Snape Maltings, Trionfi at the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Lord Hayes’ Masque in the Albert Hall.  He has also performed with Pro Cantiones Antiqua, Singing Toledo in Ubeda.

Richard has also performed extensively in Europe, appearing in the Beaune Early Music Festival and performing Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and Vivaldi’s Dixit Dominus in Turin and Moderna. He has also featured in Festival Mitte Europa, singing Songs of Angels in Wroclaw and Acis and Galatea with Sir Charles Farncombe and Virtuosi di Praha in Marienbad and Prague.  He performed in the Saltzburg Osterfestspiele production of Falstaff with Claudio Abbado and the Berlin Philharmonic.  Last year he performed in Bach’s Christmas Oratorio in Bermuda.
